Puntland Orders Deactivation of SIM Cards of Undocumented Foreigners

Puntland has ordered a raft of strict laws to prohibit undocumented foreigners from owning SIM cards or residing in the state without permits.

The new requirements include an order to telecom firms in the state to deactivate SIM cards linked to such individuals.

Puntland’s actions signal a serious commitment to disrupting the activities of Islamic State terrorists in the region.

Banning the illegal entry of foreigners and deactivating SIM cards tied to undocumented individuals could significantly hamper the terrorists’ ability to communicate and organize.

With the military intensifying operations in key areas like Al-Miskaad and Al-Madow mountains, the pressure on IS fighters is increasing.

This effort is aligned with Puntland’s broader strategy to ensure regional security and cut off IS’s financial and operational support networks.

It also reflects a growing collaboration between local authorities and military forces in tackling extremist groups.
