Puntland President Discusses Women’s Quota with WomenHRD Minister

President Said Abdullahi Deni of Somalia’s semiautonomous state of Puntland discussed women’s representation with Hanifa Mohamed Ibrahim.

Deni’s discussion with Ibrahim, the Minister of Women and Human Rights Development, took place in Garowe on Tuesday, December 1.

The discussions on women representation took place while the two leaders were talking about the upcoming federal elections.

Currently, Somalia is in an electioneering mood.

The country is expected to hold local and parliamentary elections in December 2020.

Somalia would then be holding presidential elections in February 2021.

The issue of women representation in parliament has received widespread attention from politicians and human rights activists.

International partners are also at the forefront of advocating for increased participation by women in the nation’s politics.
