Puntland has received the COVID-19 vaccines from the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
Officials from the regional Ministry of Health received the vaccines from WHO and UNICEF representatives in Garowe on March 16.
The delivery of the vaccines took a day after Somalia received the first batch of 300,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from COVAX.
Somalia is entitled to over 1.2 million doses of this life-saving vaccine.
Puntland is scheduled to inoculate frontline workers as well as the elderly members of the society first in this initial phase of the vaccination campaign.
