Puntland Requests the International Community to Help it Fight Terrorism

President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland State has issued a call for help to the international community in fighting terrorism.

Al-Shabaab has been the major player in carrying out terroristic activities in the Horn of Africa region.

In the past, the international community released funds to the Federal Government of Somalia to help the country intensify its efforts against Al-Shabaab.

However, President Deni said FGS has never shared the allocation that Puntland deserves to fight extremism in the region.

The President issued this SOS on Saturday while visiting state defense forces at a military base located on the outskirts of Garowe City.

His Vice President, Ahmed Elmi Osman, accompanied him on the tour. Several government officials were present as President Deni read his statement to boost his troops’ morale.

Part of his statement read, “Somalia needs continued support in the security sector. Foreign jihadists and other enemies are crossing into the country through the seas.”

He said that only a single strong force could defeat the enemy. Deni said that international partners must answer his country’s cry for help to defeat Al-Shabaab, ISIL, and other groups.
