The government of Puntland has indicated that it would only take part in talks between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) if the meeting occurs before June 27, 2020.
The date is special because it is when the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) is set to address parliament on the upcoming elections of 2020 and 2021. Puntland insists that the FMS and FGS meeting has to take place before NIEC meets parliament.
Otherwise, the meeting would be of no use to any member of FMS. President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland also supported calls for a meeting between all stakeholders this month put forth by Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, the Speaker of the Senate.
The June 27 meeting between NIEC and parliament would offer the polls agency the chance to present a tentative calendar for the upcoming polls. The parliamentary polls of 2020 and presidential elections of 2020 have triggered a crisis in the Horn of Africa nation.
