Puntland has agreed to accept payment of up to 10 percent of all taxes in Somalia Shillings, a report from the Office of the President shows.
On December 27, President Said Abdullahi Deni issued a communiqué directing state officers to accept this new requirement.
Forthwith, all payments of less than $10 anywhere in Puntland have to be in US$.
In recent days, multiple protests have erupted in Puntland over the lack of Somalia Shillings.
As per President Deni’s recent directive, the 10 percent taxation is to be cleared only in Somalia Shillings.
Deni’s directive is designed to boost the value of the Somalia Shilling. In recent days, it has been rejected in most of the markets run by his administration.
