With Eid-ul-Fitr only a few days away, Puntland’s administration has announced its decision to relax restrictions put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the region.
The semi-autonomous region imposed several measures, which included a decision to close all borders, in a bid to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
COVID-19, a virulent disease that the World Health Organization (WHO) categorized a global pandemic, has ravaged the region since March 2020.
Consequently, the government had to impose several measures to ensure that it does not cause more damage.
Jama Farah Hassan, the state’s Minister of Health, said, “We have decided to relax some of the COVID-19 restrictions to allow our people to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.”
Apart from allowing movement in and out of the border, the administration also announced a suspension of the ban on the importation of Khat.
However, neither Hassan nor the government said whether the restrictions would be restored once Eid-ul-Fitr ends.
