Puntland’s Military Court Sentences an Al-Shabaab Militant to Death

A military court sitting in Puntland has sentenced one of the most influential leaders of Al-Shabaab in the region to death.

Muhumed Mohamed Saed was found guilty of leading the extremists and recruiting more people into the Al-Qaeda linked group.

Consequently, the court deemed it fit to sentence him to death for his crimes.

Saed was not the only militant in court, though. Four other militants were in court to answer charges of being members of either Al-Shabaab or ISIS.

The other four were slapped with different sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years.

All the five individuals were arrested in a military operation carried out in Puntland recently.

Their sentencing took place barely one week after the same military court sentenced four other militants.

Al-Shabaab has increased its attacks in the region despite the efforts of Somali National Army (SNA), African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) troops.
