Qatar and Turkey Asked to Stop Training and Funding Somali Troops

Jubaland’s President Ahmed Madobe has challenged Qatar and Turkey to stop training and funding Somali’s troops. In the process, he has dragged the two nations into the endless political squabbling in Somalia.

The country’s leader, President Mohamed Farmaajo, has been facing unprecedented rebellion by federal states. Two of the leaders of these states, Madobe and Said Deni of Jubaland and Puntland respectively, have led the criticism of Farmaajo’s administration.

Madobe questions Qatar’s decision to send money to Mogadishu. He says the Federal Government of Somalia uses the funds for “ulterior” motives against Somalis in federal states. The leader of Jubaland says this is in direct contravention of international laws of cooperation.

He also said Turkey’s financing and training of SNA troops is responsible for the “unnecessary onslaught” that Somali forces have been carrying out against federal states. Madobe has called upon the two countries to help preserve peace in Somalia by stopping all funding and training.
