Qatar Calls for Investigations into Somali’s Involvement in Tigray War

The Qatari government has called for investigations into the role of Somalia in last year’s war in Tigray.

Over the last two weeks, there have been reports that Somali National Army (SNA) sent newly trained recruits to Tigray.

Apparently, the young SNA soldiers were first sent to Eritrea for military training.

Afterward, they were rushed to Ethiopia to help government troops launch a military operation against rebel forces in Tigray.

It has been reported that over 370 Somali youths were killed in the Tigray clashes.

On January 29, Qatari government issued a statement calling for immediate investigations by Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Somali authorities into the matter.

In its statement, Qatar said that it “condemns abusive and duplicitous recruitment of individuals on the pretext of being sent to Doha for work.”

Reportedly, the Somali youths sent to Eritrea for training had been told they were to travel to Qatar to work as security guards.

On Friday, Qatar condemned the duplicitous and abusive recruitment and said that it “stands against such attacks.”
