Qatar to Fund Education of Over 57,000 Somali Children

The Qatari government has promised to fund the basic education of more than 57,000 children in Somalia.

Qatar made the announcement on December 2 after signing an agreement with Somalia’s Ministry of Education.

The education ministry signed the agreement with Qatar Development Fund (QDF).

Abdullahi Abukar Haji, Somalia’s Minister of Education, and Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari, the Director General of QDF, signed the agreement on behalf of their two governments.

Al-Kuwari said, “Qatar has remained one of Somalia’s supporters and financiers of the education sector.”

He said that his country would not stop investing in sectors that empower the people of Somalia while ensuring that their country remains developed.

On his part, Haji extended gratitude to the Qatari government for continued support accorded to Somalia in different sectors in recent years.

The support from Qatar is to help children pursuing basic education in all the five Federal Member States (FMS).
