A Qatari plane carrying medical aid landed in Somaliland on Saturday. The plane touched down at Egal Airport.
It carried tons of facemasks, gloves, and protective gear for frontline healthcare workers.
The donation is to help the government to curb the spread of the deadly COVID-19 although Somaliland and Qatar lack cordial diplomatic ties.
Doha said it could not ignore the plight of the people of Somaliland as COVID-19 ravages the country and brings business to a standstill.
Somaliland has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent days. It lacks the robust healthcare system needed to combat the spread of the virulent disease.
Additionally, the country has struggled to enforce the preventive measures recommended by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Qatari leadership donated the supplies despite President Musa Bihi Abdi blasting it while on a tour of the United Arab Emirates.
