Qoorqoor Declares His Mediation Efforts over Somali Elections a Failure

President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor has cancelled his mediation efforts over Somali elections after declaring them a failure.

On January 9, Qoorqoor said that he would not be mediating any more after Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble said that elections would kick off shortly in selected regions.

Qoorqoor has been attempting to mediate between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Federal Member States (FMS), and the opposition.

However, his efforts appear to have collapsed after Prime Minister Roble announced that elections would proceed in three regional states.

On Saturday, Roble announced that elections would kick off in Galmudug, HirShabelle, Southwest states, and Benadir Region.

For months, the country has been caught up in an elections impasse, which appears nowhere near ending soon.
