President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor of Somalia’s semiautonomous region of Galmudug has hailed the amazing success achieved during the just-concluded Dhusamareb talks.
The talks were being held for the third time in Galmudug’s administrative capital.
In the first round, only the five leaders of the country’s Federal Member States (FMS) of Jubbaland, Galmudug, HirShabelle, Southwest, and Puntland attended the talks.
The next round saw the five leaders together with the immediate former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire before President Mohamed Farmaajo joined them towards the end of the talks.
In the just-concluded third round, all leaders were present except those from Jubbaland and Puntland. Hassan Ali Khaire was also absent having been removed from office in late July.
Qoorqoor expressed his pleasure at the agreement signed in Dhusamareb this week.
He hailed the electoral constituency caucuses model, which the leaders at the meeting agreed to use in the upcoming elections in the country.
According to the model, only 301 delegates from each constituency will vote for leaders.
Qoorqoor says this is a huge breakthrough for the country. He also cited the fact that National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) will supervise the polls as an excellent piece of news.
