Galmudug’s President, Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor, has signed a significant agreement to develop the Hobyo port, which holds the potential to transform trade in the region.
Hobyo, located on the central coast of Somalia, has long been considered strategically vital due to its proximity to major maritime routes in the Indian Ocean.
Qoorqoor signed the agreement that launches the development of the port on Wednesday.
The development of this port is expected to bolster regional trade by providing a direct link for goods between central Somalia and international markets, reducing dependence on other regional ports.
This project could bring economic growth, create jobs, and increase connectivity for Galmudug and Somalia as a whole.
Additionally, the port’s modernization may enhance security and stability in the area by addressing piracy and fostering economic development.
