The Benadir Regional Administration organized and held a rally in Mogadishu on Monday to demonstrate their support for direct elections..
The event emphasized the importance of granting every citizen the right to vote, a significant step toward strengthening Somalia’s democratic processes.
Leaders from the regional administration, civil society members, and local residents participated in the rally, calling for inclusive elections and greater representation for the people of Mogadishu.
The rally took place a few hours after Jubbaland re-elected Ahmed Islam Madobe as President for another four years using the delegates system.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has repeatedly stated that the country will henceforth hold direct elections for all positions.
Jubbaland is the first regional state in the country to go against President Mohamud’s commitment to one-person one-vote polls.
