Wanlaweyne, Somalia – Regional forces in Somalia’s Southwest State have launched a determined offensive targeting Al-Shabaab-held villages near Wanlaweyn district.
The operation seeks to reclaim key areas long used by the militant group as hideouts and transit points.
Local security officials say the push is part of a broader strategy to isolate Al-Shabaab from supply routes and weaken its grip on rural communities.
“We are intensifying operations to deny the enemy safe haven,” one official told local media.
The offensive marks a renewed effort by state forces to complement ongoing national and international counter-terrorism operations across southern Somalia.
