Religious Scholars Discuss Security in Guri-El Town

Religious leaders and scholars held a meeting in Guri-El to discuss the ongoing security situation in the town.

Mostly, the scholars met to speak about the need for boosting security cooperation between local residents and authorities.

The discussion came in the midst of the recent deadly clashes in the town.

As one of Galmudug State’s largest and most important towns, Guri-El witnessed clashes between the military and militia.

Somali National Army (SNA) troops, in conjunction with the Galmudug regional forces, fought with Ahlu Sunna militia for three days from October 23.

The clashes left tens of people dead, hundreds more injured, and thousands displaced.

According to the religious leaders and scholars, the situation could have been easier to avert with such cooperation in place.
