The recently renovation of Mogadishu Stadium by the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) in conjunction with the Chinese government and international partners will help sports teams in the country to cut costs.
Abdiqani Said Arab, the President of Somali Football Federation (SFF) confirmed this when addressing the media during a press conference held yesterday. He said the country’s national football teams have been forced to play their matches in Djibouti.
Consequently, Arab indicated that the national football teams have been incurring huge costs to honor their matches. He indicated that the dire state of sports facilities in the country, which is the result of decades of conflicts, has affected sports teams considerably.
Nevertheless, he thanked the government for rebuilding Mogadishu Stadium. Arab also indicated that the country needs more facilities around the country to complement the only national facility Somalia now has.
Football and all other sports remain suspended in the Horn of Africa nation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Government imposed several measures, including suspending all public gatherings, in an effort designed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
