All the roads leading to the venue of the opposition rally that was planned for February 19 in Mogadishu have been closed.
The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) deployed its troops to the region to ensure that no person accesses the venue.
Opposition politicians had announced their plans to hold a rally in the nation’s capital to voice their displeasure at the government’s inability to hold elections.
The politicians claimed that the government is unlikely to hold any meaningful dialogue with them or leaders of the Federal Member States (FMS) to solve the ongoing impasse.
On Friday morning, gunfire sounds were heard in the capital as security agents dispersed the crowds that were gathering and making their way to the venue.
A few opposition politicians who were making their way to the site were also sent scampering.
