Roadside Bomb Kills Afgoye Police Commander and 3 Bodyguards in Lower Shabelle

A roadside bomb that exploded in Hawa-Abdi, a city on the outskirts of Afgoye District, killed Abdulkadir Osman Mursal. The explosion killed him together with three of his bodyguards.

Two other bodyguards who were injured are receiving treatment in hospital.

Thus far, no group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. However, Al-Shabaab has a history of using landmine explosions in Somalia.

The long-serving police commander of Afgoye has been in the forefront of leading the fight against insecurity and Al-Shabaab insurgency in the Horn of Africa nation.

Afgoye District is in Lower Shabelle Region. It is prone to Al-Shabaab attacks just as much as any other city or town in Somalia.
