Roble Chairs First Cabinet Meeting of the New Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble chaired the first cabinet meeting of the new Council of Ministers on October 24.

Saturday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers was the first time the newly appointed cabinet was meeting under Prime Minister Roble.

The meeting took place a few hours after the House of Representatives approved the list of ministers on Saturday.

On Monday October 19, Roble announced the makeup of his first cabinet.

He retained about 50% of the ministers who served under his predecessor, Hassan Ali Khaire.

Roble appointed 27 ministers and 17 deputies, who were approved unanimously by all the 188 members of the Lower House.

The Prime Minister urged his ministers to prioritize preparations for elections, which kick off in November 2020.

He also encouraged the ministers to deliver on security, especially now that Al-Shabaab is boldly carrying out attacks all over the country.

Essentially, Roble wants the Council of Ministers to draw up the Federal Government of Somalia’s 90-day program.
