Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has invited an Egyptian grand imam to visit Mogadishu soon.
Roble invited Ahmed el Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, to visit Mogadishu when the two met in Cairo on August 18.
Prime Minister Roble led a delegation of senior Somali government officials to Al-Azhar, Cairo.
Grand Imam Tayyeb addressed the delegation. In his address, he commended the outstanding performance that Somali students continue exhibiting while studying at Al-Azhar institutions.
Tayyeb informed Prime Minister Roble’s team that Al-Azhar institutions currently host over 870 students from Somalia.
Furthermore, he promised to extend more scholarships to Somali students.
On his part, Prime Minister Roble extended gratitude to Grand Imam Tayyeb for the support Al-Azhar has continuously offered to Somalia.
He also lauded the moderate Islam that Al-Azhar espouses.
