Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has called the agreement that Somalia signed with a United States firm for oil and gas exploration “illegal.”
Somalia’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources had announced the deal on Saturday, February 19.
When announcing the deal, Engineer Abdirashid Ahmed, the petroleum minister, expressed gratitude to President Mohamed Farmaajo for supporting the process.
However, Farmaajo’s office later declared the agreement “null and void.”
Now, Prime Minister Roble has also added his voice to Farmaajo’s by terming the deal illegal.
Further, the Prime Minister indicated that the government would take proper legal steps on the matter.
The seven oil and gas exploration agreements were between Somalia and Coastline Exploration Limited, a Texas-based firm.
