Sahan Research has spoken out strongly against the decision by a court in Mogadishu to sentence its Strategic Advisor to a prison term of five years.
This week, the Benadir Regional Court sentenced Matt Bryden to five years.
According to the court, Bryden is guilty of revealing Somalia national secrets to foreign governments and agencies.
On October 27, Sahan Research issued a statement condemning the prison sentence.
Sahan Research called the charges Bryden was accused of “untested and spurious.”
Furthermore, its “categorically and comprehensively” rejected the outcome of a trial that it described as “farcical and politically motivated.”
The research organization also condemned the leadership of outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
It accused Farmaajo of building a “fractured and dysfunctional” state.
