Saudi Arabia Responds to Somalia’s Drought Aid Appeal First

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the first country to formally respond to the Federal Government of Somalia’s urgent call for humanitarian aid, as a severe drought impacts vulnerable communities.

On Sunday, the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Moallin Abdulle, held a special meeting at the agency’s headquarters with Mr. Yaziid Cabdalla Xamuud, Director of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre’s Africa Office. The talks centered on the deteriorating drought conditions and swift provision of emergency aid to those affected.

The meeting disclosed that Saudi Arabia has approved immediate humanitarian assistance for nearly 100,000 people among those most severely impacted by the drought.

Mr. Yaziid Cabdalla Xamuud reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s enduring solidarity with the Somali people and the Kingdom’s pledge to maintain its humanitarian support for the nation.

The SoDMA Commissioner conveyed profound appreciation to Saudi Arabia for its prompt action and ongoing aid to Somalis, emphasizing that the support will substantially strengthen current initiatives to assist drought-stricken communities.
