Save the Children, Disaster Agency Strengthen Ties for Somalia’s Development

Mogadishu, Somalia – Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim Abdi of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) welcomed Mahamuud Mohamed Hassan, Country Director of Save the Children Somalia, and his delegation at the agency’s headquarters in Mogadishu on Sunday, in a meeting aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation.

The high-level discussion focused on aligning Save the Children’s humanitarian and development interventions with the Federal Government’s National Transformation Plan (NTP), a roadmap for rebuilding Somalia through sustainable programs and institutional resilience.

Commissioner Moallim emphasized the importance of working closely with credible international organizations to address the country’s recurring humanitarian challenges—ranging from climate-induced displacement and drought to child protection and food insecurity.

He welcomed Save the Children’s continued support, noting the agency’s strong track record in child-centered humanitarian response across Somalia.

Hassan reaffirmed Save the Children’s long-term commitment to Somalia, expressing the organization’s readiness to work in closer partnership with government agencies.

“Our goal is to ensure that our activities complement national priorities, especially those outlined in the NTP. By doing so, we hope to contribute meaningfully to Somalia’s journey toward stability, resilience, and inclusive development,” said Hassan.

Both sides agreed to form a joint technical working group to improve coordination, accountability, and delivery of impact-driven initiatives—particularly in disaster risk management, education, health, and child protection sectors.

The meeting marks a renewed phase of collaboration between Save the Children and SoDMA, signaling a shared commitment to a more resilient and self-reliant Somalia.
