Security Beefed up in Dhusamareb as FGS-FMS Talks on Elections Continue

Security has been beefed up in Dhusamareb where the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) talks on elections are currently taking place.

The talks have been on since February 1 and are scheduled to last most of this week.

On Monday night, suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, with mortar shells.

Three people were reportedly injured in the mortar shell attack.

Since then, the government launched a massive security operation to make the city secure for leaders engaged in the FGS-FMS talks.

Residents are also primed to benefit greatly from the joint security operation involving FGS troops and Galmudug State forces.

A heavy presence of officers of the armed forces has been witnessed in the city for the last two days.

A day ago, security officers found the militants responsible for Monday’s mortar shell attack.

Three of the militants were shot and killed while one other was captured. Further, the security officers retrieved several weapons from the militants in the outskirts of the city.
