A security expert has warned that the decision by the government of the United States to withdraw troops from Somalia could have dire consequences.
Hussein Maalim, the founder of Hiraal Institute, said that the steps Somalia has made towards could be derailed.
Furthermore, Maalim warned that the withdrawal of troops from the East African nation could have the advantage over to Al-Shabaab and other militia groups.
On Friday, December 4, reports from the US indicated that President Donald Trump remains intent on pulling out the 700-strong US military from Somalia by early 2021.
Maalim called the decision “ill-advised.”
He stated that the decision could destabilize the Horn of Africa nation, which is scheduled to hold presidential elections in February 2021.
