Security has been tightened in Garowe ahead of this week’s Annual Forum for Ideas organized by the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS).
The forum has been scheduled for the capital of the semiautonomous region of Puntland.
The security inspections started on December 27.
Security forces visited and inspected several buildings and businesses in the region while stopping vehicles for random inspections too.
HIPS’ forum is to be launched officially Tuesday, December 29.
The organizers announced that they would seek ideas on how to manage the country’s protracted transition due in 2025.
Abdi Hashi Abdillahi, Speaker of the Senate (Upper House), and Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman, Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House), are already in Garowe.
Dahir Mohamud Guelleh, one of the candidates expected to participate in next year’s presidential elections, has also arrived in the Puntland city for the forum.
More guests are expected in the city on Sunday.
