Senate’s Deputy Speaker Urges UN to Explain Deaths of 9 Workers in Somalia

Senator Abshir Axmad, Senate’s Deputy Speaker, has urged the United Nations to explain the macabre killing of nine street cleaners working on one of its projects in Somalia.

The nine workers were killed last year.

Reports emerged that they were allowed to continue working in the area despite receiving death threats from Al-Shabaab.

The militia is quite active in the region.

According to reports filed by the Investigative Dossier, a program broadcast on VOA Somalia, tens of low-income workers in Somali are deployed to work in conflict zones.

Deputy Speaker Axmad is now asking the United Nations to speak about these incidences since the workers were killed while working at sites of projects that the global organization funded.
