Senator Ahmed Abdihafid has faulted the recent recognition of President Ahmed Madobe of Jubbaland by the administration of President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia as “too little too late.”
During an interview with Dalsan TV, Senator Abdihafid said he was happy that Mogadishu finally recognizes the administration of President Madobe officially. However, he said the move should have taken place a year ago.
President Madobe won presidential polls in the semiautonomous state of Jubbaland in August 2019. He defeated a candidate fronted by President Farmaajo’s government hence the decision by Mogadishu not to recognize his win.
Senator Abdihafid said, “The misunderstanding between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Jubbaland administration of President Madobe has caused untold suffering to the local people who have been denied service.”
Yesterday, FGS recognized Madobe’s leadership and requested him to organize meetings with other stakeholders in Jubbaland to push the state’s agenda forward. Mogadishu also asked Madobe to hold reconciliatory meetings with other leaders immediately.
