Senator Ilyas Accuses Farmaajo of Dishonesty on Kenya Stance

Opposition Senator Ilyas Ali Hassan has accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of dishonesty over his stance on Kenya.

On December 2, Senator Ilyas posted a photo of Farmaajo campaigning in Kenya prior to the 2016 presidential elections.

At the time, Farmaajo relied on Kenyan support to win Somali elections.

However, over the last two years, President Farmaajo has been at the forefront of diplomatic spats with Kenya.

This week, Farmaajo’s administration expelled Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo from Somalia.

Tumbo is Kenya’s Ambassador to Somalia.

Farmaajo also recalled Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya in a move that heralds the collapse of diplomatic relations between their two countries.

President Farmaajo has been accusing Kenya of interfering with Somalia’s internal affairs.

Senator Ilyas reminded Farmaajo that he traveled to Kenya in the company of Fahad Yasin, the Director of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), before the 2016 elections.

At the time, Farmaajo and Yasin never referred to Kenya as “invaders.”

He said that Farmaajo and Yasin are being “dishonest” over their stance on Kenya.
