Lt. Gen. Walter Koipaton, who is the Commander of the Kenya Army, visited Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) troops in Somalia on Monday.
The senior commander visited his troops, who are part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) contingent.
His visit comes amid recent reports from Nairobi indicating that the government intends to withdraw the KDF troops from their East African neighbor.
The visit is Lt. Gen. Koipaton’s second to Somalia in as many months since his elevation to office.
While visiting KDF troops, Koipaton commissioned a project for harvesting rainwater that his soldiers had erected in Burgavo to help the local community.
Afterward, he also visited several Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) to interact with soldiers.
KDF later released a statement saying Lt. Gen. Koipaton commended the AMISOM soldiers for serving the mission diligently.
