Seven ISIS fighters were killed earlier today in a US drone attack in northern Somalia, United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) have confirmed.
The Islamic State (ISIS) fighters were killed when they attacked a region full of American forces who were in the area to “advise and assist” their partners.
In the Tuesday attack, AFRICOM confirmed that no civilians were either injured or killed.
AFRICOM spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place in Timirshe, which is not too far from the Gulf of Aden.
Furthermore, it remains unclear whether any AFRICOM soldier was killed or wounded before they could retaliate.
In recent years, AFRICOM has increased the intensity and frequency of its drone attacks against extremists in Somalia.
Al-Shabaab and ISIS-Somalia are the two most notorious militias in the Horn of African nation.
Fighters for the two groups appear to be increasing their raids against government officers, Somali National Army (SNA), AMISOM and AFRICOM soldiers.
Civilians have also felt the brunt of the recently increased attacks by members of the Al-Qaeda linked group.
