On Monday, Puntland Special Forces carried out a military operation in which several Daesh militants were killed.
Reports indicate that eight militants were killed during the operation, which demonstrates the ability of regional troops to tackle local militia.
The dead militants were in Iskushuban, Bari.
The region has grown in popularity with ISIS-Somali and Daesh militants in recent times. Members of the Al-Shabaab militia have also been sighted in the area.
According to multiple sources, the operation by Puntland forces had been in the pipeline for a long time.
The forces opted to carry out the operation because of the growing presence of militants in the region.
After arriving at the scene, the region’s military engaged the militants in a fierce gunfight that lasted several hours.
At the end, the militants had lost at least eight of their members while a sizable cache of explosives had been captured.
