Severe Malnutrition Could Kill Thousands of Somali Children, Warns UNICEF

Severe malnutrition is likely to kill thousands of Somali children, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned.

UNICEF issued this gut-wrenching warning on Tuesday, October 18.

James Elder, a UNICEF spokesperson, urged the international community to act fast to prevent the unprecedented death of Somali children.

“We are likely to see the death of Somali children in the country on a scale that the world has not witnessed in over 50 years,” Elder warned.

He added that a young malnourished child is admitted to health facilities around the country every minute of every day.

Thus far, health facilities have admitted 44,000 malnourished children since August.
