Ship Carrying Expired Food Supplies from WFP Expected in Somalia

A ship carrying a donation of food supplies from the World Food Programme (WFP) is expected to dock in Somalia and Somaliland soon.

According to multiple sources, the ship has already departed Mombasa Port to its destination in Mogadishu and Berbera Port.

Sources also indicate that the ship, which is carrying thousands of metric tons of food aid, could stop at Bossaso Port too.

The ship is transporting food meant to cater for the needs of close to 30,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Somalia and Somaliland.

Currently, tens of thousands of people in the region are grappling with acute malnutrition.

Earlier, reports indicate that the ship had been turned away from other ports in the continent after respective authorities learned that it was carrying contaminated food.
