Shurie Calls for a New Fisheries Law that Favors Galmudug

Sabir Shurie, the Minister of Ports and Fisheries in Galmudug, called for a new fisheries law that favors Galmudug State.

Shurie made these sentiments on December 10 during the ongoing Fisheries Consultative Conference in Mogadishu.

Several stakeholders attended the conference.

It attracted representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the Federal Member States (FMS).

During the conference, Shurie said, “The previous law on sharing fishing resources in Somalia was vague. It had nothing good for Galmudug.”

He noted that the existing law never gave “Galmudug its rightful share.”

Consequently, Shurie urged stakeholders to discuss and agree on Revenue Sharing Agreement and the Fisheries Draft Bill.
