Six Million Somalis in Danger of Famine, WFP Warns

Six million Somalis are in real danger of famine, according to a warning that the World Food Programme (WFP) has issued.

WFP issued this warning in its latest update released on April 20.

In the update, WFP states that six million Somalis, who represent 40 percent of the country’s population, currently face acute food insecurity.

The global organization is alarmed that Somalia stares at a real possibility of famine within the next few months.

WFP believes that the situation would only change if Somalia receives heavy rains.

Additionally, the situation could improve when international partners send humanitarian assistance to Somalia urgently.
