Six soldiers lost their lives in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Lower Shabelle on January 16, 2021.
Reports indicate that several top commanders of the Danab Forces, a special-trained unit of the Somali National Army (SNA), were injured in Saturday’s attack.
Abdikadir Mohamed Nur, the Governor of Lower Shabelle, escaped unhurt in the deadly incident.
The Deputy Governor of Lower Shabelle also escaped unhurt.
Reportedly, the IED targeted the convoy comprising Governor Nur’s team.
Two of the Danab Forces commanders were airlifted to Mogadishu for medical treatment.
