Six Somali civilians are dead following an airstrike carried out by the US military in Janale District in the southwest of the country.
The United States had targeted members of Somali’s Islamist groups in the airstrikes. However, they ended up killing civilians thus creating a storm behind.
Mahad Dhore, a local lawmaker and relative of one of the victims, gave the names of the dead civilians in an interview with Reuters.
During his interview, Dhore said, “A drone attack by the US military killed six civilians who were traveling in a minibus. One of the dead was Abdifatah Farhan Mohamud, a 13-year old boy.”
Dhore also clarified that the dead have already been buried according to Muslim rites. The burial ceremony took place near the place of the attack.
On Tuesday, AFRICOM said it had killed five terrorists in an airstrike. US Africa Command also said no civilian had been killed in the attack.
However, it promised to review the details further upon getting more information. Al-Shabaab has accused the US of killing civilians and disseminating fake news.
