Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) has strongly condemned the killing of Abdifatah Abdi Osman, known widely as Arab, a television technician working for the privately-owned Astaan TV.
Arab was fatally shot on Sunday morning, May 25th, while on his way to work at the network’s headquarters in the Hodan district of Mogadishu.
According to his colleagues, the fatal shooting was carried out by a security guard stationed at a nearby private hotel apartment.
SJS called for a swift and transparent investigation into the killing and urged authorities to hold those responsible accountable, stressing the need to protect media workers across the country.
Arab’s death adds to the growing list of threats and violence faced by Somali media professionals, raising further concerns about press safety in the country.
