Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS) has asked authorities in Somaliland to release all the detained journalists immediately and unconditionally.
On Wednesday, the Secretary General of the organization, Abdalle Ahmed Mumin, issued a statement urging authorities in Somaliland to “free all detained journalists.”
Furthermore, Ahmed demanded for the immediate halt to all intimidations and persecutions against journalists in the nation.
He said that journalists must be allowed to “exercise their professional undertakings freely.”
Several journalists have been arrested in Somaliland in 2020.
Civil society organizations, media bodies, politicians, and foreign observers have all condemned the continued intimidation, persecution, arrest, and detention of journalists in Somaliland.
