Somali National Army (SNA) conducted a joint military operation with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces in the Gedo region.
According to sources, the SNA and AMISOM troops encountered stiff resistance from Al-Shabaab militants in the region during the operation.
The clashes broke out in Garbaharey Town, Gedo.
Several people were arrested as SNA and AMISOM troops carried out investigations on the whereabouts of extremists and terrorists in the region.
Colonel Warfa Sheikh Aden Farole, the Commander of SNA’s 10th Battalion of the 43rd Division, confirmed that the operation was quite successful.
As per Col. Farole’s comments, the operation would continue until Garbaharey Town is secure and safe for all.
He also requested local residents to stop hiding militants in their houses.
Instead, the residents should inform security agencies about the presence of any member of the militia groups.
