SNA and AU Forces to Provide Security for Somalia’s Elections

Somali National Army (SNA) and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces are to work together to provide security during the upcoming elections.

On Monday, December 20, AMISOM stated that it would cooperate with SNA troops and HirShabelle State police officers to ensure that the polls are held under secure environment.

The East African nation is scheduled to hold elections in the coming weeks.

Somalia has been experiencing increased incidences of insecurity in the days building up to its much-anticipated elections.

Lt. Col. Damien Sebatutsi, the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of AMISOM’s Sector V Unit, said that AMISOM intends to erect barriers to prevent attacks by the Al-Shabaab extremists.
