On Sunday, the Somali National Army (SNA), in collaboration with local forces, carried out a significant offensive against Al-Shabaab militants in the Middle Shabelle region. The operation, which began on March 19, 2025, involves coordinated ground and air assaults targeting militant hideouts.
Military officials report that the terrorists have been surrounded, with substantial casualties inflicted. The joint operation is ongoing, aiming to neutralize the Al-Shabaab presence in the area and restore security to affected communities.
This offensive follows a series of successful operations by the SNA against Al-Shabaab. For instance, in October 2024, Somali forces conducted operations in the Galgadud and Middle Shabelle regions, resulting in the elimination of 59 militants.
Additionally, in December 2024, the SNA dismantled key Al-Shabaab positions in the Middle Shabelle region, delivering a major blow to the extremist group.
These sustained efforts underscore the Somali government’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring regional stability.
