Lower Shabelle, Somalia – Somali Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, on Thursday visited frontline AUSSOM and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) troops stationed in Lower Shabelle to commend their pivotal role in Operation Silent Storm, which recently liberated the strategic towns of Sabiid and Anole from Al-Shabaab control.
During the high-level visit, Maj. Gen. Odowaa lauded the unity and resolve demonstrated by AUSSOM-UPDF forces, the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF), and international partners in the successful offensive. He pledged Somalia’s continued military support to intensify operations aimed at freeing other areas still under militant occupation.
“I commend the professionalism and sacrifice shown by our forces and partners. Somalia remains determined to reclaim its territory and protect its people,” said Maj. Gen. Odowaa.
He extended heartfelt gratitude to Uganda for its enduring role in stabilising Somalia and its steadfast contribution to peacekeeping under the African Union’s new mission, AUSSOM.
AUSSOM Force Commander Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma underscored the critical importance of joint coordination and strict adherence to the protection of civilians.
“Our joint operations must always prioritise the safety of communities while dismantling terrorist networks,” he said.
Maj. Gen. Odowaa was accompanied by key military figures, including Sector One Commander Brig. Gen. Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga, Operation Silent Storm Commander Col. Kosia Kuteesa, Military Information Officer Lt. Col. Jean Rukiira, and senior SNAF officers. Their presence reaffirmed a united front and an unwavering commitment to sustained operations in Sector One.
