SNA Commander Meets AUSSOM Leadership to Discuss Security Transition and Counter-Terrorism

MOGADISHU — The Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA), Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, convened a high-level security meeting on Thursday at his Mogadishu headquarters. He welcomed the African Union’s Special Representative and Head of the AU Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, along with AUSSOM Force Commander General Sam Kavuma.

The meeting emphasized the critical need for seamless coordination between national and continental military efforts as the country navigates a complex security landscape.

The Security Transition Plan

The private talks concentrated on strengthening strategic cooperation and operational partnerships between the SNA Command and the AUSSOM forces. A focal point of the discussion was the implementation of the Security Transition Plan, the strategic framework designed to gradually transfer security responsibilities from African Union troops to Somali security institutions.

Both leadership teams rigorously assessed the progress of the transition to ensure that the restructuring and drawdown of international troops align precisely with the SNA’s growing capabilities and deployment readiness.

Joint Operations and Logistics

Beyond the broader transition strategy, military leaders discussed tactical approaches to intensify joint operations against Kharijite terrorist networks. Commanders examined battlefield logistics and the operational adjustments necessary to maintain pressure on frontlines and protect newly liberated areas from insurgent counter-attacks.

In closing, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud expressed his gratitude to the AUSSOM leadership. He praised the mission’s ongoing contribution to national security and Somalia’s stabilization, reaffirming the SNA’s dedication to working alongside international partners until the terrorist threat is completely eliminated.
