SNA, Macawiisley Foil Al-Shabaab Ambush in Hiiraan Region

Hiiraan, Somalia – Somali National Army (SNA) troops, in coordination with local Macawiisley forces, successfully repelled an attempted ambush by Al-Shabaab militants on Monday in the Gumare area near Moqokori, in the Hiiraan region.

According to military officers leading the operation, the joint forces were conducting a routine patrol when they came under attack from Al-Shabaab fighters attempting a surprise assault.

The Somali troops responded swiftly and engaged the militants in heavy fighting, resulting in the deaths of several Al-Shabaab operatives. The exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, but security sources report that the extremists suffered significant losses.

Clashes continued in parts of the Gumare area throughout the day, with military officials confirming ongoing operations to flush out remaining militants.

This latest confrontation underscores the persistent threat posed by Al-Shabaab in central Somalia, particularly in Hiiraan, where government forces have intensified efforts to eliminate insurgent strongholds.

The Macawiisley militia, composed of local volunteers, has played a vital role in supporting SNA offensives and maintaining control over liberated villages.

Security officials have urged residents in the area to remain alert and to support national efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
